Century Yuasa Enhances Wastewater Treatment with Advanced HyPURE® Filtration

November 12, 2024

Hydroflux have recently completed the successful upgrade to an existing trade waste plant for Century Yuasa Batteries (CYB), well known as Australia’s oldest and most recognised battery manufacturer in Australia. This project is Hydroflux and CYB’s second collaboration on the trade waste plant upgrade in Carole Park, QLD, with the first project being completed last year in 2023.

Hydroflux supplied a new HyPURE® filtration system specifically designed to remove dissolved contaminants present in the wastewater. The HyPURE® filtration system consisted of a series of filtration vessels incorporating multimedia filtration, followed by activated carbon and an ion exchange system with specifically selected resin. The project also included a backwash tank to automatically backwash all filtration vessels and maintain optimum performance of the system, as well as integrating the new additions to the existing trade waste plant to ensure that both systems can operate in conjunction.

By implementing the new filtration system, CYB was able to achieve and even exceeded the limits imposed in the trade waste consent, consistently achieving > 98% removal through the system.

A spokesperson from the Carole Park site stated: “The filtration system that Hydroflux installed exceeded our expectations of the amount of removal it was able to achieve, and we are pleased with the results that it is consistently meeting the limits that we need.
