For hotel resorts, wastewater treatment plants are crucial to  keep the quality of water in the surrounding area pristine and to meet environmental regulations.

The type of wastewater treatment process selected is based on your environmental discharge license and any reuse criteria you may desire or require. Hydroflux Pacific’s solutions range from the simplest and most robust process found in the RoadTrain  activated sludge plant to the high-performance Membrane Bioreactor . For large resort complexes, Hydroflux Pacific can also offer the unique Organica process which is an architecturally designed treatment plant that combines natural native plant life with activated sludge treatment systems.

The Roadtrain activated sludge plant is one of the most robust and simple to operate wastewater treatment plants favoured by resorts of all sizes.

RoadTrain®

The Carbon Neutral certified RoadTrain® solution is ideally suited for resorts. It is available in four different process configurations to accommodate various needs and capacities, ranging from 10 to 600 kL/d or 50 to 2000 guests. Our high-quality fabrication options ensure durability with a design life of 25 years and a proven track record of installations operating for over 40 years. For remote sites, a bolted version is available to simplify transport and installation works.

Aside from being a carbon neutral product, the RoadTrain® packaged sewage treatment solution is also a sustainable product as it adds economic value to the community it serves by being produced locally. In Fiji our production is in Ba on Viti Levu, and in Papua New Guinea we produce the plant in Port Moresby or Lae. The Roadtrain® is provided as a pre-fabricated system that is simply bolted to a concrete slab minimising the costs and time associated with construction and site works.

Configurations

There are multiple variations of RoadTrain® available, each tailored to specific performance requirements and space limitations.

The RoadTrain® range offers several options, with the most favoured and commonly used version at resorts being the RoadTrain® Original. This version employs the Activated Sludge treatment process, which includes pre-screening, aerobic treatment, clarification, and disinfection. Among the different RoadTrain® processes, the Original is the simplest and most user-friendly. The effluent discharge produced by this version generally meets environmental discharge standards across all nations in the region. For those seeking even higher performance in more sensitive areas, there are advanced variations of the RoadTrain® that specifically aim to enhance nutrient removal.

Organica

Organica’s architecturally designed treatment plants combine natural native plant life with activated sludge treatment systems. Installations around the world have demonstrated local community endorsement of water reuse, decentralised treatment, and the need for integrated water resource management. Many of the installations are also used as learning centers and provide a platform for educating local school and community groups on sustainable water use and integrated water management.

Resembling a natural greenhouse or botanical garden, the Organica Food Chain Reactor achieves best practice discharge and odour treatment, enabling compliant discharge or water reuse, but with a pleasant visual that blends into the landscape.

Potable water, or drinking water, is an essential part of everyday life and a reliable supply of potable water is a critical asset of any resort. Whether your source of water is from bores, surface water dams, mains supply or desalinating sea water, Hydroflux Pacific can provide high quality reliable potable water treatment systems for small boutique establishments or a large resort complexes.

Our potable water treatment solutions are customised on your raw water source and quality and guarantee a consistent potable water supply to your resort.

The solutions range from the simplest media filtration units to treat high quality surface water through to the most advanced reverse osmosis treatment solutions that generate potable water from sea water.

Ground water bores | HyPure® | Surface water | Sea Water RO | Municipal Water Supply

Ground water bores

Bore water is groundwater that is extracted from a borehole, and the quality of bore water can vary depending on the location and the geological characteristics of the surrounding soil and rock formations. In some areas, the groundwater may have a high level of salinity due to the presence of dissolved minerals and salts, making it brackish.

Brackish water is treated through a variety of methods depending on the cleanliness of the water and the level of salinity. The most common methods of brackish water treatment Hydroflux has adopted for resorts can involve one or a combination of the processes shown below.

In situations where the water exhibits high turbidity, the initial stage of treatment will usually involve chemical coagulation followed by clarification. This process aims to remove suspended solids and particles from the water, enhancing its clarity and reducing turbidity.

For non-brackish water with low levels of dissolved salts, the secondary and final treatment approach involves media filtration followed by disinfection. Media filtration effectively removes impurities and particulate matter from the water, while disinfection destroys harmful microorganisms, ensuring the production of potable water.

In the case of brackish water, a popular method of treatment is the utilisation of reverse osmosis (RO). This involves passing the brackish water through a semi-permeable membrane to effectively remove dissolved solids and salts. Reverse osmosis is highly efficient, capable of removing up to 99% of salts and minerals present in brackish water. Hydroflux can also incorporate Ion Exchange technology for similar purposes, utilising a resin bed that facilitates the exchange of ions.

Surface Water

Surface water collected in dams at resorts can be treated to make it safe for drinking and other uses. The treatment method used will depend on the quality of the surface water, but the most common methods of surface water treatment adopted by Hydroflux Pacific at resorts include:

  • Coagulation and flocculation: This is the initial step in the treatment process where chemicals are added to the water to remove suspended particles and turbidity. Coagulants like alum and ferric chloride neutralise the charges on suspended particles and form larger aggregates called flocs that can be easily removed.
  • Sedimentation: The water is then allowed to settle in a clarifier, allowing the flocs to settle at the bottom of the tank. This process removes large particles and flocs from the water.
  • Filtration: The water is then passed through a series of filters, including sand, gravel, and activated carbon, which remove smaller particles, organic matter, and bacteria.
  • Disinfection: After filtration, the water is disinfected using chemicals like chlorine, ozone, or UV light to kill any remaining bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens.

Hydroflux Pacific has vast experience in the treatment of surface water and the applications described above. Systems can be containerised for easy deployment or provided on skids for partial assembly on site.
